SHARDFRONT

FAQ

What is Shardfront?

Shardfront is a hex-grid real-time strategy game for phones and browsers, played in landscape and fullscreen. You deploy units instantly, command them across the map, mine shards, and hold the pads around the central Spire so its Rift Lance strikes the rival's hub.

Is it finished?

No. It is a public alpha. Things will break and change. Please send feedback, bug reports and suggestions.

How do I report a bug or make a suggestion?

Use the feedback form: https://shardfront.dredarkroom.com/info/feedback/. Say what you were doing, what you expected, what happened, and which phone or browser you use.

Why does it ask for fullscreen and landscape?

The game is designed for landscape and fullscreen only. Browsers only allow fullscreen after a tap, so the first screen asks you to tap. On iPhone, Safari cannot go fullscreen for web pages: use Share, then Add to Home Screen, and open it from there.

Can I play online against a friend?

Not yet. The Lab tab has an experimental peer-to-peer connection test, but matches are not synchronised. Online multiplayer is on the roadmap.

Whose music is in the game?

The soundtrack is by Travesty (https://soundcloud.com/travesty). The built-in tracks are from El Topo (https://soundcloud.com/el-topo) and Precursor (https://soundcloud.com/the-precursor), early aliases of Travesty. Another alias, Precursor, is at https://soundcloud.com/the-precursor. Please go and listen to them.

The music or voices sound wrong, or I want different music.

Open Soundtrack to switch between the built-in synth music and the player, and to import your own tracks. Unit voices are read by your device until the creator's recordings replace them.

What does the game store on my device?

Settings, imported tracks and imported voice packs are kept in your browser on your device. There are no accounts. Messages you send through the feedback form are stored so the creator can read them. The site is hosted on Cloudflare.

Is it affiliated with Command & Conquer or EA?

No. It is an original game; all unit names, art, sound effects and voice lines are original. It takes inspiration from the short-match mobile RTS style of Command & Conquer: Rivals and is not affiliated with or endorsed by EA.

What are shards?

Shards are the in-game currency. They are named after the currency on the creator's Twitch stream, where viewers earn shards the longer they watch.
